The Waikato district is 418,893 hectares of prime rural land that provides a strong economic foundation for our many small urban communities and activities. Our population grew at 2.3% in 2018, compared with New Zealand's average of 1.9% and this is most evident in our northern-most towns of Tuakau, Pokeno and Te Kauwhata. For the past five years, our population has grown faster than New Zealand's average growth rate every year.

Our economic performance over the last 5-10 years reflects our high growth, growing diversity and our importance as an agricultural, energy and manufacturing hub.
