Submitting a building consent application just got easier in Waikato.
Submitting a building consent application to the Waikato District Council should now be easier and quicker.
Consents can now be submitted electronically and their progress tracked online.
The council will accept consent applications that are emailed with a file share link, for example Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or saved on a USB stick.
Previously people had to print out two application copies and manually deliver them to the council offices. Paper copies can still be submitted but only one copy will be needed.
“These changes will reduce printing costs for our customers, saving them money as well as time,” said Building Quality Manager Merv Balloch.
“It makes it much easier for people that aren’t near one of our offices or don’t have time to drive and physically bring them in.”
In other changes, people will now receive the application number at the beginning of the process, which will make it easier for them to make an online payment and to track their building consent’s progress.
The changes will also save time for council staff.
“With a 50% increase in building consent applications over the past two years, it’s important that we make the process as efficient as possible,” said chief executive Gavin Ion.
