Waikato District is strategically located in the economic zone that incorporates Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga which  generates 52% of the national GDP.

In the south of the District the Ports of Auckland In-land Port at Horotiu will become a major freight and logistics Hub adjacent to over 40 hectares of industrial and commercial land at Northgate Business Park.

To the north of the Waikato District large parcels of industrial land are available in Tuakau and Pokeno. With long term residential development signaled in the area, more people will choose to live and work on the fringes of the Auckland Metroplitan area.
